Subscribe to Astro from the AWS Marketplace

Astro is a managed service for data orchestration that is built for the cloud and powered by Apache Airflow. Your Airflow infrastructure is managed entirely by Astronomer, enabling you to shift your focus from infrastructure to data.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) customers can subscribe to Astro with the AWS Marketplace. This enables you to pay for your Astro usage with your existing AWS billing configuration. You can choose to subscribe to the Developer tier for monthly, pay-as-you-go billing or work with our team on an upfront, annual subscription.

The following steps show you how to subscribe to Astro's pay-as-you-go Developer tier via AWS Marketplace. Steps 1 and 2 can be completed in either order.

If you already subscribed to Astro via AWS Marketplace, follow the instructions in Step 1 to create your Astro account and Organization. If you have an Astro account and Organization but have not yet started a subscription in AWS Marketplace, go to Step 2.

Step 1: Create an Astro Organization

You first need to sign up for Astro and create an Organization if you do not already have one.

  1. Go to https://cloud.astronomer.io, and follow the prompts to create your user account with a Google account, a GitHub account, or an email and password. If you use an email and password combination, follow the prompts to validate your email address.
  2. After you successfully create your user account, click Create Organization in the Start a Free Astro Trial section.
  3. Follow the prompts to customize your Astro experience, including how you plan to use Astro and your level of Airflow experience.
  4. Provide a name for your Organization and Workspace. These can be changed later in the Astro UI. Astronomer recommends naming your Organization as your company name and your Workspace as the team that plans to use Astro.
  5. Click Continue to create your Organization and Workspace.
  6. (Optional) Choose to create a Deployment with a template project. This is not required at this point and you can return to set up a template project later.
info

An Organization is the highest management level on Astro. An Organization contains Workspaces, which are collections of Deployments, or Airflow environments, that are typically owned by a single team. You can manage user roles and permissions both at the Organization and Workspace levels.

Step 2: Subscribe to Astro in AWS Marketplace

  1. Log into your AWS account.

  2. Go to the AWS Marketplace.

  3. Search for Astro by Astronomer - Pay As You Go, or go directly to the product listing.

    tip

Ensure the product name search includes Pay As You Go. Other listings from Astronomer are available in AWS Marketplace, but do not include the pay-as-you-go Developer tier.

  4. On the product overview page, click View purchase options.

  5. Ensure Developer (Pay-as-you-go) is selected and click Continue to subscribe.

    tip

Astronomer recommends you enable Auto Renew to ensure your account remains active. You will only be billed for use on active Deployments, so even with Auto Renew enabled, you will not be billed unless your Deployments consume resources. If you choose not to enable Auto Renew, Astronomer queues your Organization and any active Deployments for deletion when your subscription expires.

  6. In the modal, click Set Up Your Account. If you have issues, you can navigate directly to the confirmation page.

  7. Fill out the form on the confirmation page. This ensures your AWS subscription correctly links to your Astro Organization.

    info

AWS might prompt you to create an Astro Organization at this stage. No further action is required if you already have an Astro Account and Organization.

Step 3: Start Using Astro

Your Astro Organization comes pre-loaded with a set amount of credits. You can begin to create Deployments and run DAGs using these credits right away.

Within 1 business day of completing the AWS Subscription process, the Astronomer team will configure your Astro Organization to use your AWS Billing account. Astronomer will notify you when this is complete.

You can also verify your AWS Account is linked by going to your Astro Organization’s Billing Settings and confirm that the Payment Type in the Payment Method section shows AWS Marketplace.

See the Astro Trial Resources section for more information about what you can do with your Astro trial and Run your first DAG with the CLI to get started.

Canceling your Astro Subscription

You can cancel your Astro subscription in AWS Marketplace. Before you cancel your subscription, please check that you deleted all Deployments and exported any configuration settings for your Deployment that you want to preserve. If you have any active Deployments, you might see an error or any running tasks might abruptly terminate.

danger

After you cancel your subscription in AWS Marketplace, Astronomer hibernates your Deployments for 30 days. After 30 days, your Deployments are permanently deleted. See Delete a Deployment.

Navigate to AWS Marketplace and follow the instructions for canceling your SaaS subscription.

If you no longer want to use your AWS account for your Astro subscription, please contact billing [at] astronomer.io for assistance updating your payment settings.
