What is a data product in Astro Observe?

A data product is a reusable data asset that bundles everything needed to make it independently usable by consumers (E.g. a compliance report, ML model, inventory report, etc). In Apache Airflow, we can think of a data product as a collection of tasks and assets orchestrated through data pipelines. Tasks, datasets, warehouse tables, and local files can all be assets of data products that capture the data lifecycle of a pipeline.

What counts as an SLA?

SLAs are polices set for the delivery of data products orchestrated by Airlow pipelines. SLAs on data products can be configured for data freshness and/or timeliness based upon the business requirements.

What happens if I need more SLAs?

If you need additional SLAs you can purchase an overage pack or upgrade to a higher tier (i.e. Observe Team to Observe Business). If you are unsure which option is right for you, talk to a member of your account team who can help you select a plan based upon your goals and budget.

Can you set multiple SLAs for a data product?

Yes, multiple SLAs can be set for a single data product for both timeliness and data freshness.

How do I know which tier is right for me (Observe Team or Business)?

Most users require 1-2 SLAs per data product. Teams that manage a higher volume of critical data pipelines and consequently multiple data products, may require a plan with higher number of monitored SLAs. If you are unsure which option is best for your organization, you can talk to an Airflow expert at Astronomer to determine the right package based upon your needs and budget.
